Wash the pink dragon fruit peels very well. Sometimes the pink flesh of the fruit remains on the peels as it is quite difficult to get rid of.
Set aside the peel to dry or dab dry.
Add the dragon fruit peels in a saucepan.
Add the water. This can be cold or preheated. You could even try using filtered water to see if that will change the result to the final mixture.
Cover with a lid and cook the water in the pan for 10 minutes.
Try not to remove the lid if possible.
Strain or sieve the mixture into a jar. This produced 500ml of natural dye.
You can use the dye straight away. Or store the dye in a clean jar. You can keep this in the fridge, if you don’t want to use it straight away.
You can either dispose of the peels if you don’t want to keep them or wash them and set aside to use for other experiments.
